About Lauren Stanphill Birthcare

As a birth doula, I support hospital, birth center, and home births in the Northern Virginia area and believe that no matter how you intend to birth your baby - unmedicated, epidural, scheduled induction, cesarean section, vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) - you deserve calm and confident support every step of the way. I am deeply invested in everyone I work with, and my promise to you is that you will never be just a number. I take immense pride in providing well-informed, attentive, and communicative support throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

How It Works

Birth Plan Development

Together we will create a tailored birth plan by discussing evidence-based information, exploring your preferences, and ensuring your goals are clearly communicated.

Advocacy

I will help ensure your preferences and values are clearly communicated to your care team, empowering you to make informed decisions and feel supported throughout the birth process.

Partner Support

I support partners by suggesting effective comfort measures, fostering confidence, and ensuring they feel involved and connected throughout the birthing process.

Emotional & Physical Support

I provide emotional support by creating a safe, reassuring environment and helping you stay calm and focused during labor. Physical support is provided through comfort measures like massage, breathing techniques, and positional guidance to help ease pain and facilitate labor progress.

Better Birth Outcomes

Birth doulas improve birth outcomes by offering continuous support, reducing stress, and promoting evidence-based practices, which can lead to shorter labor, fewer interventions, and greater satisfaction. Statistics show that having a doula reduces c-section rates, leads to shorter labor times, lowers the need for interventions, and improves maternal satisfaction.

Community Resources

Birth takes a team! Throughout pregnancy and postpartum I can provide trusted references to other perinatal professionals in the area, such as lactation consultants, mental health professionals, chiropractors, and more.

Testimonials

I cannot express enough how thankful I am for having Lauren by my side during the birth of my second child. From the very beginning, she was incredibly attentive, supportive, and reassuring, creating a calm and positive atmosphere when I needed it most.

The nurses at the hospital were also amazed by her, constantly mentioning how helpful and in tune with the whole process she was. She truly knows her craft—she offered gentle guidance, comforting words, and physical support when I needed it, and it made such a difference in my birth experience.

What stood out most was how she took the time to get to know me and my preferences, and made sure that everything went smoothly. She helped me feel empowered, informed, and confident throughout the entire process, and made my second child’s birth not only manageable but absolutely beautiful. I will forever be grateful for her presence and care. If you are considering a doula, look no further—Lauren Stanphill is the absolute best!

Clara, INOVA Fairfax

So grateful for the support of Lauren throughout my pregnancy and birth of my first born. After some traumatic previous attempts to get pregnant, Lauren was understanding of my fears and anxieties and was a central support crew to my emotional state leading up to birth. When I went into labor Lauren was there to help us stick to our birth plan the best we could, employ comfort measures and offer guidance. If you are questioning whether to hire Lauren, you wont regret it.

Liz, INOVA Fair Oaks

We used Lauren as our birth doula for our third baby. We had a wonderful experience with her. Lauren is the best of both worlds as she is both straightforward and professional but also caring and supportive. She was respectful of how we wanted the birth to look and in light of that made sure she gave us the informatiom and support we needed to make the decisions that were best for us. When I had a question, Lauren provided good information and made sure I understood the pros and cons of each choice. She was also very patient and came to the hospital just to wait in the car as we were sent back home the first time we went in. She was cheerful and positive through it all! Her support was a big comfort and help to us throughout the entire process! If you are wanting someone reliable and professional, Lauren is the perfect choice for you!

FAQ

How do I get started?

To schedule a complimentary consultation, simply reach out through the contact form or give me a call.

When should I hire a doula?

Many families hire a doula around 20-30 weeks of pregnancy to allow time for prenatal visits, planning, and building a trusting relationship. However, I happily accept clients during any phase of their pregnancy journey!

Do you accept insurance?

To provide the highest level of service, I do not accept insurance. However, I am happy to provide a superbill receipt to submit for possible reimbursement from your health insurance company.

What should I expect during prenatal visits?

Pregnancy brings joy and excitement, but also fear and anxiety – and that is normal! During our prenatal visits, I will listen intently as you describe the birth experience you desire, and educate you on your options and ways to achieve those goals. We will log these preferences in a birth plan you feel comfortable with, and discuss how to communicate these preferences during labor and delivery. We will discuss comfort measures so you can breathe through the contractions that bring you one step closer to meeting your little one!

What should I expect during a postpartum visit?

The weeks following birth can feel like a blur. At your postpartum visit, we’ll create space to slow down and reflect. Together, we’ll revisit your birth story, celebrate your strength, and gently unpack any lingering emotions or questions. I’ll help you find peace in your experience, while also providing practical guidance and resources for newborn care, healing, and self-care. By the time I leave, you’ll feel more grounded, confident, and supported as you step into this beautiful new chapter of motherhood.

What is your service area?

I support moms and families in Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and surrounding areas including but not limited to: Fairfax, Centreville, Herndon, Reston, Ashburn, Sterling, Brambleton, Vienna, Falls Church, McLean, Tysons, Oakton, Arlington, Alexandria, Great Falls, South Riding, Chantilly, Leesburg, Burke, Springfield, Annandale, Manassas, and Fort Belvoir.
